SchlumbergerCultural and gender diversity, and being part of the community have long been a central part of the Schlumberger culture.
Schlumberger is the world’s largest oilfield services company, providing the most complete range of services in the industry. Ian Sealy, Environment Affairs Director, has responsibility for the company’s environmental standards, performance and compliance. – My role is about ensuring a proactive attitude amongst our employees. We set high standards and have a robust reporting and measurement system. Online reporting Populated by all employees, QUEST monitors risk identification reports, records audits and facilitates data analysis. – So we know what potential challenges we may face, and where. Global Citizenship Schlumberger operates in approximately 80 countries and employs over 160 nationalities. – Cultural and gender diversity, and being part of the community have long been a central part of our culture. Global Citizenship is our framework that addresses six societal concerns. Climate change and environmental impact Developing technology solutions to climate change and the company’s own environmental footprint are areas of focus. – We are using our knowledge of the subsurface to develop solutions for carbon storage. We work to minimize our own environmental impact and many initiatives are in place. For example in Knarvik, outside Bergen, a local initiative resulted in a program where Schlumberger recycles seismic cable used on vessels worldwide. Leading the way Driving safety, malaria and HIV/AIDS are other focus areas. – Driving related incidents are the highest cause of fatalities in the oil and gas industry. We are recognized as leaders in driving safety initiatives through our training and use of technology. Malaria is a significant public health issue and the company operates in malarial zones. Their malaria prevention program has been adopted by other organizations. – Our malaria prevention kit includes self-diagnosis, self-treatment and 24 hour expertise. We are active in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and have obligatory training for employees travelling to high-risk locations. Education is the main community outreach theme. – Our employees volunteer to bring science and HSE education to youth in local communities. Employees also gain support for initiatives they care about - such as responding to the Tsunami. We continue to strengthen our practices and our approach is driven by taking pride in how we conduct our business, pursuing excellence and making commitments we can keep.
